The set went up an hour before the family arrived — pink and white blooms, a hand-lettered "ONE" in blocks. She ignored the cake for the first five minutes and inspected the flowers instead. The photos worked anyway.

The naming ritual ran twenty minutes ahead of schedule — the priest moves with the muhurtham, not a stage manager's cue. We stayed close to the baby through it and picked up the family portraits once the rituals wrapped.

The formal group portrait took four minutes. What we kept chasing after that — a father unable to keep a straight face while his daughter styled his collar — is the one that actually got framed.
